Every June 21st, skaters across the globe take to the streets to mark Go Skateboarding Day, and this year, the Maldives rolled in heavy once again.
Organized by the Skateboarding Association of Maldives, the celebration kicked off with a community ride through Hulhumalé, culminating at the Hulhumalé Skatepark. Riders of all ages, from young beginners to seasoned heads, showed up and showed out, keeping the spirit of skateboarding alive and thriving in island paradise.
But the energy didn’t stop there.
In true Go Skateboarding Day fashion, the Association also hosted a three-day contest, beginning on June 19th and wrapping up on Go Skateboarding Day itself, June 21st. Held entirely at the Hulhumalé Skatepark, the contest brought heat across multiple categories:
Under 9 – 45s Run: A timed run where young rippers had 45 seconds to showcase their creativity and control.
Under 14 – 45s Run
14 & Above – 45s Run
Under 9 – Expression Session: A free-form segment where flow and individuality took center stage.
Game of S.K.A.T.E.: The classic face-off. One skater lands a trick, the other has to match it. Miss a trick, earn a letter. First to spell “S.K.A.T.E.” loses. A true test of precision and mental game.
A massive congratulations to all the winners who claimed their spots at the top and a much needed appreciation goes to every participant who showed up, gave their best, and contributed to the energy of the event.
Finally a huge shoutout to the Skateboarding Association of Maldives and the sponsors for lighting it up once again in 2025. Here’s to more sessions, more style, and more Maldivians falling in love with the ride.
