Cokes (Thulusdhoo) is one of the most consistent and powerful surf spots in the Maldives, best known for its hollow, right-hand reef break that offers clean barrels and solid walls. Located just off the island of Thulusdhoo in North Malé Atoll, it’s only a 30–40-minute speedboat ride from the airport, making it one of the most accessible high-performance waves in the country. The name comes from the Coca-Cola factory nearby, the only one in the Maldives, but the wave is anything but industrial. It breaks fast and heavy over a shallow coral reef, making it a wave for experienced surfers only.
The ideal swell direction is south to southeast, and it works best on mid to high tides. Wind is offshore with North West to North East winds, which are common in the early mornings. Peak season runs from May to October, with June to August delivering the most reliable swells. You can expect head-high to double overhead sets when the forecast is on point. Here’s why Cokes ain’t for beginners, you’re basically in the barrel from the takeoff. It’s steep, tight, and if you hesitate, the reef won’t let you forget it. To keep things interesting, there’s also an inside section that throws again, offering a second barrel if you’re lucky or just fully locked in.
Thulusdhoo itself is a solid base for anyone chasing sessions at Cokes. You can paddle out from shore, or hop on a dinghy for a quick drop. The reef is sharp, so bring reef boots or be ready for some battle scars. Board rentals and guides are available locally, but if you're serious, bring your own gear. Alcohol isn’t available on the island, but food, coffee, and sunset chill spots are easy to find.
String’s Take
Cokes is the real deal, a punchy, barreling reef break that isn’t here to babysit. If you're looking for a wave that lets you level up (or test what you're made of), this is it. No easy entry, no slow rollers, just clean swell, critical drops, and the kind of sessions that leave you buzzing. Bringing a consistent size, a fast takeoff, and a hollow inside section that rewards commitment, it’s raw, fast, and punishes hesitation, it’s exactly what a proper surf stop should feel like.
