Dhivehi Surf League 2025 Begins with Fire in Muli

The waves are back, and so is the league that fuels the Maldivian surf spirit. Dhivehi Surf League 2025 launches with its first event, “Muleekolhu Raalhugandu 2025”, currently underway in the reef-heavy waters of M. Muli which will be running from July 16th to 19th.

Organized once again by the Maldives Surfing Association in partnership with the Ministry of Sports, Fitness & Recreation, this year’s league kicks off strong, with a robust turnout and fierce brackets across both the Men’s Open Shortboard and Junior Under-18 Boys Shortboard divisions.

Structure Built for High Stakes

The opening round is where the battles begin, but the league’s format is where things get strategic. Each division runs through a three-round format:

Round 1: The proving grounds. Six heats make up both the Men's Open and the Juniors division. The top two surfers from each heat advance directly to the final round.

Round 2: A second chance. Three heats featuring the 3rd and 4th place surfers from Round 1, battling it out in a survival bracket where redemption is earned, not given.

Round 3: A clash of titans. Six final heats where the top surfers from Round 1 and Round 2 meet to determine who walks away with the season's first trophy.

The Lineup

This year’s roster looks stacked, with 22 athletes confirmed for the Men’s Open and 21 rising young surfers stepping up in the Junior division. The draw has dropped, the heats are set, and it all kicks off with “Muleekolhu Raalhugandu.” This opening event marks the official ignition point of the 2025 Dhivehi Surf League, setting the tone, the rivalries, and the standard for what’s to come.
