The peak of the Maldives National Bodyboarding League has arrived—and wrapped—with the 2025 National Bandufilaa Challenge, held from November 18-22 at the legendary Varunulaa Raalhugandu in Malé. As the final and most prestigious stop of the annual league, the Challenge delivered high-level performance, narrative-heavy rivalries, and historic breakthroughs that now shape the national bodyboarding landscape for 2026.
A Final Showdown at Raalhugandu
The last event of the season didn’t disappoint. Heavy sections, clean lines, and perfectly timed pockets set the stage for a finale that pushed every athlete to their limit.
Men’s Open – Champion of the Challenge
Ashraf Hassan—representing Fuvahmulah—took the spotlight with a composed, technical performance that earned him 13.00 points, securing the Challenge title.
He clinched the win over Ali Khushruwan Ahmed (Kuda Ayya), ending a tightly contested run between the league’s most consistent competitors.
Dropknee Division – Undefeated Performance
In the Dropknee division, Ali Khushruwan (Kuda Ayya) went undefeated throughout the 2025 season, winning every Dropknee event, including the Bandufilaa Challenge. In the Challenge final, he defeated Aamin Umar Moosa to claim the Dropknee title, while Mohamed Azaan Ahmed finished third.
Junior Men’s – Rising Talent on Display
The Junior division closed with Eyan Ahmed secure the final with a 12.10-point score. His confident execution edged out fellow finalist Abdul Ahad, further cementing Eyan’s status as one of the strongest young riders in the country.
Masters Category
The Masters lineup closed with Ibrahim Shiman taking the category title. Abdulla Jameel and Ahmed Afnan secured second and third place, rounding out a strong competitive field.
National League Champions Crowned
Beyond the Challenge titles, the most coveted honors were the overall National League Champion awards—the result of an entire season’s worth of performance, points, and persistence.
Men’s Open – A Historic Milestone
Aamin Umar Moosa is officially the 2025 National League Champion, finishing with 3,460 points.
His title was mathematically secured when Ashraf defeated Aamin’s closest rival, Ali Khushruwan Ahmed, in the Bandufilaa final—a fittingly dramatic twist to end the season.
Aamin’s win became more than just an achievement of the champion, it wrote history. He becomes the first athlete ever to claim both the Junior and Open League Champion titles in the history of the National League—having previously won the Junior category in 2022 and 2023.
Junior Men’s – A Season of Dominance
With 3,860 points, Eyan Ahmed saw domination across the final Challenge, after securing the Junior Men’s open in the challenge, he went on to finish off the season as the 2025 Junior Men’s National League Champion. His consistency across every event made him unmatched in the standings.
